Malaysian Live-Edge Table
This beautiful Malaysian slab dining table and coffee table were originally produced by Art of Tree. Art of Tree in Malaysia harvests urban trees and turns them into beautiful works of art as you see here. However, our client had a problem.
These massive tables cracked.
All wood products move with climate. A combination of natural wood movement, transporting halfway across the world in a shipping container, and placed into a drastically different climate caused these slabs to move to their breaking point.
This is when we were called in.
We stripped off the old finish, added hidden mechanical reinforcement, and filled the cracks with high-quality epoxy specifically designed for tables like this one.
Many times in life you have to make something look worse before you can make it better. This whole project felt like furniture surgery.
Once all the repairs were made we had to make these tables look great again.
This involved sanding… lots of sanding
So. Much. Sanding.
After a few eternities of sanding we were ready for our clear coat. This also involved sanding between coats.
For all of our wood finishes, we use a professional-grade pre-catalyzed lacquer. That means is that you get an extremely durable, long-lasting finish in a variety of sheens. And as always once cured this is considered food safe.
We always do a full three coats for a beautiful finish. Like this.
Did I mention these tables were a wee bit heavy? Well, they were. It took four of us to move the big table. We even pulled out a hydraulic lift.
We always take care when we deliver furniture to protect your home and floors. (You’ll notice the vacuum in the above photo, we also clean up after ourselves.)
This repair and refinish (including pick up and delivery) cost $3800
